Project "Textiles and Traditions in Japan" F/W 24/25
Japan, with its centuries of textile traditions, represents an inexhaustible source of inspiration for today’s creators.
My project, Textiles and Traditions in Japan, was born from the desire to immerse myself in the world of Japanese textiles, to understand the ancestral techniques, and to connect with the artisans who preserve these unique skills.
Between December 2024 and January 2025, I have two whole months to explore these crafts.
My goal for these two months is to explore these crafts from the inside by meeting artisans, learning alongside them, and documenting their work. Through this project, I aim not only to learn but also to share these discoveries with a wider audience in order to preserve and pass on these precious techniques.
Why this project?
In an increasingly fast fashion-dominated world, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of artisanal crafts and traditional textile techniques. My project aims to:
Preserve and share textile know-how: By documenting the methods of artisans, I want to create a living archive of Japanese techniques so that they can be accessible to future generations.
Raise public awareness: Highlight the value of artisanal work in the face of mass production and underscore the importance of textile craftsmanship in our society.
Create connections between artisans and creators: Shine a light on artisans who still work with these techniques and enable international creators to collaborate with them.
How to participate?
If you are a textile artisan, a designer, or simply passionate about craftsmanship and would like to learn more about this project, I would be delighted to connect with you. My journey in Japan will take place from early December to the end of January, and I am open to any opportunity for meetings, studio visits, or collaborations.
Feel free to contact me to learn more about this project and to discuss a potential meeting.
